Tomorrow is our annual craft fair and bake sale! This is a great opportunity to pick up some Christmas gifts and enjoy our famous kraut burgers (and maybe a cookie or two). This event is extremely important to our school as it helps us keep our tuition rates lower. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

October is always an exciting month. As the weather begins to change, so do the children here. It is amazing how quickly the children grow at our preschool. We’re so proud to make such a positive impact on the children in Fort Collins!
We taught the children about colors and what the effect of mixing two colors has. The kids especially loved using the color paddles where they could investigate what new colors could be made with an orange and red paddle. We also made a craft by melting crayons on a hotplate.
Fire prevention week was the week of October 8th. The kids learned about fire safety and prevention as well as made fire trucks out of shapes. Needless to say, some of the fire trucks were quite interesting and most certainly creative!
To celebrate fall, we did a scarecrow craft as well as created a leaf using wax paper and melted crayons. The field trip to the pumpkin patch was a huge success! This year we were blessed with great weather. The children enjoyed picking out pumpkins — some bigger than their heads — seeing the animals on the farm, as well as the hay ride.
Pastors Leta and Michael both did chapel this month. Pastor Leta is working with the children to learn the Lord’s Prayer.
Next month we will be working on shape recognition, math, symmetry, small motor skills, cutting skills, letter and sound recognition, and body movement. Keep in mind, this month brings Thanksgiving break. There will be no school November 21st through November 23rd.

It’s time for our first field trip of the school year and we couldn’t be more excited! The trip to the pumpkin patch here in Fort Collins is a great adventure and the perfect way to welcome fall. We’ll get to visit some farm animals, take a hay ride, and pick out a pumpkin to take home.

Parent / Teacher conferences are in the near future. This is a great time for us to visit and discuss how your child is progressing. We will not be closing school for conferences this year. Instead, we will have a few spots in the morning and the remainder will be held in the afternoon.

What a month September has been! The children toured the school and made binoculars to help us see all the really cool things about our school. We spent time identifying the first letter of our names or just on knowing what our name looks like. We also made new friends and explored who lives in our families. For art, we traced the children’s bodies and let them color themselves in. We also painted outside with a friend, which is always a favorite activity.
Each week we will be highlighting one letter of the alphabet for our four and five year old Pre-Kindergarten classes. The alphabet knowledge will include letter names, letter sounds, letter formation, and upper and lower case identification. We have already covered the letters A, B, and C.
A new concept we have introduced each day is to have your child write out their full name (or their first initial) when they come into the room. The children seem to be enjoying this new skill.
Each month we try to highlight which skills we are working on. Next month you can expect your children to learn phonemic awareness, initial sounds, letter and sound recognition, tactile activities, color awareness, and movement. We will work on these skills with all of our classes (with age appropriate degrees of depth). We feel it is very important for you to know what we are working on as we are preparing them for their next educational step in their lives.
Well, we have ended our 16th year of preschool! I am happy to report that all of our Pre-Kindergarten students are on their way to being fantastic kindergarten students in the fall! Jenn and I will miss them next year.
Our first week was transportation week. Probably one of the favorite weeks because we take a ride on a Fort Collins city bus to Ben and Jerry’s. Thankfully, we did not miss the bus and Ben and Jerry’s was ready with ice cream cones for the children.
The second week we talked all about our moms. We learned that the best thing she does for all of us are give us hugs and kisses but, making cookies was a very popular item as well. The three year old class made their moms hand print flowers and our bigger kids had their pictures taken in old fashioned clothes with a flower memory for their moms. We also held our annual Mother’s Day Tea where I think everyone had a great time!
Our last week of school is always lots of fun. We had bubble and chalk day and the ever popular water day! We ended the week with bike day and then graduation day. It always chokes me up to see some of our families grow out of us as brothers and sisters eventually grow out of us.
As always, I want to say a very big THANK YOU to all of you for supporting our ministry at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Preschool and a very special thank you to Pastors Michael and Leta for leading us in chapel this year. We are very blessed by all of you. We hope your summer is peacful, restful, and tons of fun!
Our first week we celebrated Easter. Pastor Leta shared with them the Easter story using Resurrection Eggs. I think it helped the children to have a firmer grasp with the story. We also painted Easter eggs with condensed milk and made bunny ears!
The second week we learned all about dinosaurs. Every year it amazes me at how much they know and that they can pronounce the names. We also painted and stuffed a dinosaur and we made dinosaur puppets. At the end of the week we had parent-teacher conferences. Our kiddos are all doing very well and our Pre-K classes are all very much ready for kindergarten next year.
The third week was farm week. Ms. Jenn taught them all about how to milk a cow and we made a barn with all the animals inside and outside. We also made pig noses and five little ducks in a pond. Our week ended with a field trip to Lee Martinez Farm where we had a tour and a hay ride.
Our last week we learned all about bugs and butterflies. We made a blot butterfly to teach them about symmetry, coffee filter butterflies, and their personal favorite, glow-in-the-dark fireflies. The children absolutely love to turn off all the lights in the bathroom and fly their fireflies around. SO COOL!
The class butterflies we have been caring for cooperated and left their chrysalis so the children could see them. We also welcomed two chicks as classroom pets (thanks to Jax). The children are thrilled with them!
Only three weeks left of school this year and it has flown by for all of us!
Our first week we learned all about our five senses. We made smelly flowers, texture boards, and taste charts. Walking in paint to create footprints was a favorite activity although, popping popcorn without a lid on it was also very popular. Pastor Leta’s chapel also talked about our five senses with God. How did they think he smelled (like a flower), how did he touch (like a hug), how does he sound (like a lion). Thanks Pastor Leta!
The next week we studied our community helpers. We made our own apron to help bake something with Mom. We painted a very grey tooth white and we made a tooth fairy box for that very special day when we lose a tooth. Our field trip this month will be the garbage garage where we will learn all about what happens to our garbage in Fort Collins.
Our last week we learned all about oceans and what is inside of them. We made an ocean in a bag, jelly fish, and the kids very favorite sand activity, sand in a bottle. We are quickly going through the letters of the week progressing up to the letter ‘W’. The children are really grabbing onto our letter of the week and Jenn and I know it will also benefit them when they start kindergarten.
We still have openings for the 2012-2013 school year. If you are interested or know someone who would like more information, contact us at 970-484-7412.
